What is the role of the Park and Recreation Commission?
The role of the Park and Recreation Commission is to provide guidelines and chart a general course of action, in concept, for the Community Services Department by formulating and approving the policies for the operation, control, improvement and planning of the park and recreation facilities, activities and community services within the City of Rancho Cucamonga.

The Park and Recreation Commission shall act in an advisory capacity to the City Council with respect to park and recreation facility location, park site planning and facility design and development, operation, maintenance and redevelopment of facilities, fiscal policy recommendations regarding development priorities, grants, fees and financing mechanisms for furthering the goals of the Park and Recreation Element of the General Plan. The Park and Recreation Commission shall advise the City Council on all matters pertaining to the provision of a quality program of recreation services and activities for the community, and such other park and recreation matters as may be referred to it by the City Council, or brought to its attention by citizens of the community. The Commission shall provide such advice and consultation to other City commissions and staff as may be requested of the Commission. |
When and where does the Park and Recreation Commission meet?
The Park and Recreation Commission meets on the third Thursday of each month, in the Council Chambers, located at 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, at 7:00 p.m.

What projects have the Park and Recreation Commission participated in?
Our Park and Recreation Commissioners have been involved in the development of our City Parks, Trails; Sports, Teens and Senior programs; Central Park, the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, Central Park and numerous Special Events held throughout the City including Movies in the Park, Concerts in the Park and Founders Day Parade.
How do you become a Park and Recreation Commissioner?
When a vacancy on the Park and Recreation Commission occurs, the City of Rancho Cucamonga recruits from the community via website, newspaper and/or flier advertisements. The vacancy notice will appear on the Commission's home webpage. An application process follows with interviews and formal selection process. The City Council officially appoints the selected candidate to assume the four year Commission appointment.
